Dr Gobetz feedback on his appointment at Baragwanath as an honorary appointee

In a meaningful reunion at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Dr. Gobetz from Vitalab and Dr. Bongi Rubushe-Ngwenya, a specialist obstetrician and gynecologist, have teamed up to promote minimally invasive gynecological surgery. For Dr. Gobetz, who trained at Baragwanath decades ago, the collaboration marks a full-circle moment and an opportunity to share his expertise with a new generation of doctors.

The pair recently performed complex surgeries, including a case involving a Müllerian duct anomaly and severe Asherman’s syndrome. Dr. Gobetz used the opportunity to teach advanced techniques, emphasizing uterine preservation and hands-on learning for local registrars and consultants. He also conducted academic sessions between procedures, sharing practical “tips and tricks” drawn from his 44 years in endoscopic surgery.

Dr. Rubushe-Ngwenya highlighted the value of public-private partnerships in boosting the quality of care in high-demand public hospitals. She praised Dr. Gobetz’s commitment to mentorship and patient-centered care.

Looking ahead, Dr. Gobetz plans to run ongoing training sessions at Baragwanath, aiming to build a stronger, more skilled surgical team. Both doctors hope the partnership will inspire broader collaborations and a sustainable, skills-driven healthcare model that improves outcomes for patients across the system.
